What is Otter?

Otter is an AI meeting assistant for capturing spoken conversations and turning them into searchable transcripts and summaries. It is useful for people who need to revisit decisions or prepare follow-up notes. Choose a permitted recording route, then check names, commitments and important wording against the audio before sharing a generated account of the meeting.

Turn a conversation into a working record

Otter captures conversations and makes them available as transcripts, summaries and searchable meeting knowledge. Its product page describes direct recording from desktop, mobile or browser, as well as meeting capture options. The plan comparison lists Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet support.

The practical value is in returning to a specific discussion: what was decided, what remains uncertain and who agreed to do something. AI Chat can help explore meeting material, but an answer still needs a check against the source. A fluent summary can omit a qualification or make a tentative suggestion sound like a commitment.

Try one short meeting

Suggested workflow: start with one short meeting whose participants know how it will be recorded and shared. Use the capture route your organization permits and keep the agenda nearby. Afterward, check the transcript around the main decision and correct important names or terminology.

Prepare a follow-up with three parts: decisions, agreed actions and open questions. Verify the owner and timing of each action against what was actually said; leave missing details unresolved instead of inventing them. Share only with the intended audience and ask participants to confirm any ambiguous commitment. The goal is a dependable working note that saves rereading, rather than a verbatim record nobody has checked.

Otter minutes, imports and plans

Otter Basic is free and currently lists 300 monthly transcription minutes plus three lifetime audio or video file imports, with each conversation capped at 30 minutes. Those are different allowances: a recurring monthly recording budget does not make file importing unlimited. Paid plans provide additional minutes, longer conversations, more imports and workflow features, with further distinctions for teams.

Before choosing a plan, consider meeting duration, how often you upload existing recordings and which export or collaboration features you need. Test a representative conversation in the languages and conditions you actually use. If your end result is an edited podcast or video rather than meeting notes, compare Descript as a different workflow; a transcript alone does not tell you which product fits the final deliverable.
