What happened

On October 21, 2026, Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app in which Claude works as a proactive agent. Access is by waitlist, starting with Pro and Max subscribers in the US; Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. Duet is a standalone app for iOS and Android and is also available on claude.ai.

Anthropic says Duet is built around Claude Opus 5.5 and aimed at professionals and small business owners.

How it works

Each morning Duet sends a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps, then keeps watching them and messages you only when something needs attention. You can hand it tasks from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, forecasts and prototype web apps. It works on its own cloud computer and drafts replies for you to approve.

Duet asks before sensitive actions such as sending messages or making payments. Anthropic says it never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens, that actions pass its auto mode classifier, and that a new classifier blocks sharing the most sensitive data, such as credit card numbers and government IDs, while health or financial details go out only on your explicit instruction.

Limits to keep in mind

Duet shares your Claude plan's usage limits, and its background checks count toward them. Anthropic says it can misread a thread, misjudge how urgent something is or miss an item, so review its briefs and drafts before relying on them. As a research preview, features and availability may change.
