What is Suno?

Suno is an AI music generator that creates songs or instrumentals from a written description and can work with your own lyrics. It is useful for exploring a song direction before deciding what to develop further. The important distinction is between generating and listening to an idea, downloading it, and using it commercially: the current plans do not treat those as the same entitlement.

Explore a song direction

Suno accepts descriptions such as a mood, genre or theme and can create a vocal song or instrumental result. You can also bring your own lyrics. This makes it a candidate for exploring how a written idea might work as music, rather than having to begin with a complete recording.

A useful brief names the intended mood, instrumentation and role of the vocals. Keep the first experiment focused on one question, such as whether a chorus works better with a sparse or energetic arrangement. These are suggested creative exercises, and a generated result is not a guarantee of a finished release.

Try a focused musical brief

Suggested workflow: write a short, original description of the song you want and prepare any lyrics you intend to supply. Generate a small set of ideas rather than repeatedly changing everything at once. Listen for how the words are delivered, whether the structure fits the brief and whether the ending feels intentional.

Note the passages that work and the changes you would want before continuing. If a download or commercial project is your goal, check that route before investing in many iterations. Keep a record of the source material and relevant account entitlement. A private idea-generation session and a track prepared for distribution are different stages with different checks.

Suno credits, downloads and intended use

The current pricing page lists 50 daily credits on Free, no monthly song downloads and no commercial rights. Paid Pro and Premier plans separately list generation credits and monthly song-download allowances. Do not translate a credit allowance directly into a promise of downloadable or commercially usable songs.

Suno’s help centre says songs downloaded while subscribed carry commercial-use rights, but that this does not guarantee copyright protection. Suno’s homepage FAQ still describes allowances and rights differently, so rely on the pricing page, help centre and Terms of Service for the track you intend to use; this overview does not promise ownership, exclusivity or rights for every output. Compare another music generator only after checking the same generation, export and intended-use requirements.

What stands out

  • Text prompts for song or instrumental ideas
  • Support for user-provided lyrics
  • Paid plans with separate generation and download allowances

Before you choose

  • Free generation does not include commercial-use rights.
  • Check download limits separately from generation credits.
  • Describe musical qualities instead of assuming rights to an artist’s voice or material.

Try Suno
