What happened

ElevenLabs published SFX v3 on October 29, 2026 as its newest sound effects model. The company says it handles prompts describing several sounds more reliably, generates music and vocals more convincingly and sounds cleaner than SFX v2 in its benchmark testing, with fewer artifacts on gongs, chimes and whistles.

In ElevenCreative it is available in the Sound Effects tab, Flows, Studio and the Music Editor, and in the ElevenLabs mobile app. Developers reach it through the ElevenLabs API.

How to use it

In the API, set model_id to eleven_text_to_sound_v3; eleven_text_to_sound_v2 remains the default. The documentation marks SFX v3 as limited access that may not be available in every region, and accounts without access get an Unknown model error. Generated clips run from 0.1 to 30 seconds, with optional seamless looping.

ElevenLabs advises describing the action, setting, atmosphere and performance rather than a broad category, for example rain against a window in a quiet apartment. Its documentation also notes limits: wording changes results, and requests for an exact number of repetitions are not always followed.

What it means for you

For video, game and podcast creators, one prompt such as a crowd cheering, a ball dropping and the crowd booing can now come back as a single sequenced effect rather than three separate clips. ElevenLabs itself says results vary by prompt and suggests comparing v2 and v3 on your own prompts.

The API price list shows Sound Effects at $0.12 per minute; ElevenLabs does not list a separate SFX v3 rate. Results are royalty-free according to the pricing page.
