What happened
Moonshot AI has released Kimi K3.1 Pro, the first model of its K3.1 series, together with K3.1 Pro Highspeed, which the company says runs 2 to 3 times faster. The announcement on Kimi's research page is dated October 24, 2026. K3.1 Pro is a post-trained version of Kimi K3, the 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight model released in July, and keeps its 1M-token context window.
Both models are available in Kimi on the web and in the iOS, Android and HarmonyOS apps, in the Kimi Work desktop app from version 3.1.0, in Kimi Code via the /model command and through the Kimi API as kimi-k3.1-pro and kimi-k3.1-pro-highspeed. Moonshot says the full model weights will be released by November 4, 2026. For Kimi Enterprise, access is off by default until an administrator enables it.
What Moonshot says improved
Moonshot focuses on coding, 3D and CAD modeling, financial research and factual accuracy. In its own results, K3.1 Pro scores 65.7% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, ahead of GPT-6 Astra (58.2%) and just behind Claude Opus 5.5 (66.4%), and its claim-level error rate on an internal hallucination stress test fell from 23.4% for K3 to 8.3%. The company also launched 3D Make on kimi.ai and in the Kimi app for previewing, editing and exporting 3D models.
For the open-weight release, Moonshot says it removed cyber-related training data and that K3.1 Pro's offensive cyber capability stays below that of frontier proprietary models.
Pricing and limits
In the pay-as-you-go Kimi API, K3.1 Pro costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, below K3 at $3 and $15. Highspeed costs $4 and $20. Zero Data Retention is available for API customers. In the Kimi app, K3.1 Pro Highspeed is listed from the Pro plan at $39 per month, or $31 per month billed annually.
All benchmark figures come from Moonshot and have not been independently verified. The API documentation also says K2 series models will no longer be available to newly registered users from October 31, 2026, and will be retired by the end of December.
