What happened

On September 9, 2026, Suno announced v6, a new generation of its music models, in a blog post by co-founder and CEO Mikey Shulman. Suno says v6 was developed with industry partners including Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, and that it will retire its previous models and move Suno entirely onto the v6 generation as the rollout continues.

At our October 26, 2026 check, Suno's pricing page listed v6-mini as the model on the Free plan and v6 and v6-wild on the Pro and Premier plans.

What changed

v6 comes as three models. v6 is the flagship for Pro and Premier subscribers, described as reliable and precise. v6-wild, also for Pro and Premier, is meant for exploration and produces less predictable, more varied results. v6-mini is a faster model available to everyone.

Suno lists new ways to work with plain-language instructions: editing one section of an existing song while keeping the rest, changing a single lyric without regenerating the song, building a mashup from several of your songs in one request, sampling and isolating part of a track to build a new beat, and starting a song from text, audio, images or video. Replacing or adding a section is listed on Suno's pricing page as advanced editing, part of the Pro and Premier plans; the Free plan includes standard features only. Suno also says it added safeguards that screen uploaded audio and lyrics for unauthorized use.

Claims that v6 is faster and higher quality, and that v6-mini beats free models on other platforms, are Suno's own and were not tested by AppFor.ai.

What it means for you

If you use the Free plan, your songs now come from v6-mini; v6 and v6-wild require a paid plan. The pricing page also shows that Free has no commercial rights and no monthly song downloads, which v6 does not change. Because Suno is retiring its older models, do not plan new work around choosing a pre-v6 model.

Suno says a separate opt-in product built around individual artists is in development, with no launch date given. See our Suno profile for plans and how to start.
