Why use a separate card for AI tools
Many people now pay for several AI plans at once, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney or Perplexity, often after a free trial. A separate virtual card just for these services keeps the charges in one place and lets you stop them without touching your main card.
This guide uses Revolut as the example because its virtual cards, card freeze and subscription tools are documented on its official pages. Other banks and fintechs offer similar features. AppFor.ai has no commercial relationship with Revolut.
Multi-use vs single-use virtual cards
Revolut offers two kinds of virtual card. A multi-use card keeps the same number, so you can use it for recurring payments and subscriptions. A disposable (single-use) card gets new details after each payment, or after 24 hours.
Revolut says single-use cards won't work for recurring payments, subscriptions or deposits. So for a monthly ChatGPT or Claude plan, use a multi-use virtual card. Keep the disposable card for one-off purchases, such as credits from a new tool you don't know yet.
Revolut lists virtual cards as free. On its Poland page, you can create up to 4 multi-use cards every 30 days, up to a maximum of 20, plus 1 disposable card with up to 5 payments every 24 hours. Limits and features depend on your country, so check them in your app. Refunds still arrive even after a single-use card number has changed.
Freeze the card if something looks wrong
You can freeze any Revolut card in the app to block payments and unfreeze it later. That's useful if an AI service charges you unexpectedly or you suspect your card details have leaked.
You can also give each card a name, set spending limits, or use a separate card for each type of purchase to keep your budget under control. Available features depend on your country.
See and block subscriptions
In the Revolut app, go to Payments and tap the calendar icon to see your subscriptions and their details. If one is missing, open the payment in your transaction history and turn on the 'Subscription payment' toggle.
You can block subscription payments of a specific amount to a merchant, or block that merchant completely, and unblock them later. Revolut warns that blocking does not cancel the subscription, and that some merchants may try to charge you under a different merchant ID. To end the plan, cancel it in your account with the AI provider.
Do you need a paid Revolut plan?
No. Virtual cards are free on the Standard plan. In Poland, the paid plans checked on October 23, 2026 were Plus (zł 19.99 a month), Premium (zł 33.99), Metal (zł 55.99) and Ultra (zł 260, listed as an introductory offer). Prices and plans vary by country.
Some paid plans include brand subscriptions, and Revolut's plan page lists ChatGPT among them. Check which plan includes it in your country before you upgrade.
