What is Google Gemini?
Google Gemini is Google's AI assistant app for chat, writing, Deep Research, image generation and voice conversations with Gemini Live, on the web and mobile. Use it to research a topic or draft a document from your files. You can start free; Gemini 4 Argon and the Pro model need Google AI Pro or Ultra.
What can you do with Google Gemini?
Gemini answers questions, writes and edits text, generates and edits images, and runs Deep Research, which analyzes many web sources and returns a report. Canvas gives drafts and code a space next to the chat, Gems are reusable custom assistants, and Gemini Live lets you talk to it by voice.
On paid plans, Gemini also works inside Gmail and other Google apps, and from Google AI Pro inside Docs, so you can ask it to summarize a thread or draft a document where you already work. Google says paid plans accept up to 1,500 pages of file uploads, and that AI Pro and Ultra include Gemini 4 Argon, Google's flagship reasoning model.
Try it on a small task
Suggested workflow: pick a question you already know something about, such as comparing two options for a purchase or a project, and run it through Deep Research. Read the plan Gemini proposes before it starts, then check the report.
Open three or four of the cited sources and confirm that the key claims match them. Note what it missed or overstated. Then try the same question in the normal chat and compare depth and speed, which tells you when Deep Research is worth the wait.
Google Gemini pricing and plans
The Free plan includes the Flash-Lite model, image generation and editing, Deep Research, Gemini Live, Canvas and Gems. Google AI Plus adds the Flash model and 2x the usage limits of Free; Google AI Pro adds Gemini 4 Argon, the Pro model, 4x the usage limits of Free, Gemini in Docs and other Google apps and 5 TB of storage. Google AI Ultra costs $99.99 per month for 5x or $199.99 per month for 20x the usage limits of Pro in the US.
Prices and features vary by country, and the plans are for users aged 18 and over with a personal Google account. Usage limits are compute-based and depend on prompt complexity, features and chat length; they refresh every five hours until you reach a weekly limit, and you can buy AI credits to extend them.
