What is DeepSeek?
DeepSeek is the official AI assistant app from the Chinese AI company DeepSeek, free on the web, iOS and Android. Use it for questions, writing, coding help and file analysis, with DeepThink for step-by-step reasoning and Search for web answers. A separate desktop agent, DeepSeek Harness, is in public preview.
What can you do with DeepSeek?
DeepSeek is a chat assistant for questions, writing, summaries and coding help. You can switch on DeepThink to have it reason step by step before answering, or Search to answer from the web. DeepSeek says the app is powered by its latest flagship model; its site currently announces the V4.1 Flash update, covered in our DeepSeek V4.1 Flash profile.
For longer work on your computer, DeepSeek offers DeepSeek Harness, an open-source desktop agent in public preview for Windows 10 or later and macOS. It can organize files, analyze data, draft documents and slides, work in code repositories and run scheduled tasks, and it is extended with plugins.
Try it on a small task
Suggested workflow: sign in at chat.deepseek.com with an email, Google or Apple account and ask a question you already know the answer to, first normally and then with DeepThink. Compare the two answers and how long each took.
Next, turn on Search and ask about a recent event, then open the sources it found and check whether they support the answer.
DeepSeek pricing and access
DeepSeek describes its app as a way to chat with leading AI models for free, on the web and in the iOS and Android apps. According to DeepSeek's privacy policy, the company collects, processes and stores your personal data in the People's Republic of China, so consider that before sharing personal or work information.
