What is Grok?
Grok is xAI's AI assistant for writing, research, coding help and image and video generation, on the web, iOS and Android. It searches the web and X live, so it suits questions about current events. It is free to try, and paid plans add higher limits and the latest models.
What can you do with Grok?
Grok answers questions, writes and summarizes, explains and writes code and analyzes files, PDFs and images. Its distinguishing feature is live search across the web and X, with citations, which makes it useful for following news and trends as they happen. Grok Imagine creates images and videos from text or reference photos, and you can keep editing them in the same conversation.
xAI also lists a multi-agent mode in which several agents work on parts of a hard question in parallel, voice conversations, memory across chats, a canvas for long-form writing and custom instructions. Grok runs on the web, iOS and Android, and inside X.
Try it on a small task
Suggested workflow: sign in at grok.com with an X or email account and ask Grok to summarize what happened today on a topic you follow. Open the cited posts and articles and note which claims they actually support.
Then ask it to turn the summary into a short post or email and compare the draft with what you would write. If you plan to use it for images, try one prompt and two follow-up edits to see how well it keeps the details.
Grok pricing and plans
Grok is free to try on the web and in the apps; multi-agent reasoning and higher limits need a paid plan. The x.ai site still calls the paid tier SuperGrok, while the plans page at grok.com lists Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra. Paid plans share one usage pool across Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build. Plus costs $8 per month in the US. Premium costs $30 per month, offers 4x the usage of Plus and adds Grok Bot, the latest Grok models and cloud agents. Super costs $100 per month with 15x the usage and 1080p videos, and Ultra costs $200 per month with 50x the usage. At the time of checking, the first month of Premium, Super and Ultra was offered at 50% off. Prices exclude taxes and fees.
The plans also include X benefits, such as fewer timeline ads on Plus and ad-free scrolling on most surfaces from Premium. Developers can use the same models through the xAI API, where Grok 4.7 is the recommended model for chat and code.
